Though hers has long-since surpassed its source, my wife's birthday lasagna is based on the recipe below. The most essential variations are in the Bolognese itself: definitely use beef/pork mixture, add some anchovy paste and/or pork pate, add the whole bottle of wine (less a glass for the cook), and simmer for 8-12 hours rather than 3-4. Additionally, aim for 7-8 layers rather than 5, don't hesitate to substitute no-boil lasagna noodles if the homemade stuff is beyond the pale for you, and don't underestimate the glories of a cold slice eaten for breakfast the following morning.
