House of the Rising sun not a Dylan song/ famous rendition was by Eric burton but many others before him .

Backstory about this. Dave van ronk

was a nyc folk singer doing an arrangement of the song and preparing to record it. Bob approached him and asked if it was ok if he recorded it. Dave wasn’t happy and bob admitted he already just recorded it , so people heard bobs version of Dave’s interpretation. Burton got the fame .

Like your definition of a folk song.
