“the Christmas Tree is a tree of fable,/A phoenix in evergreen”
Hi Sean- merry Christmas and happy new year! Thank you for this poem. I feasted on it today, on New Year’s Eve. As I do at times, I listened to you read the first time, then paused to find it online so I could see the words as you read the second time. I found the poem at https://oldshirburnian.org.uk/cecil-day-lewis-cbe-1904-1972/the-christmas-tree/ and learned that The Shirburnian had the honour of the poem’s first publication in December 1944. They also linked to a recording of Cecil Day-Lewis reading the poem https://library.harvard.edu/sites/default/files/static/poetry//listeningbooth/poets/day_lewis.html so I listened a third time. :) Thank you!
